The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) was established in 1999 by an Act of Parliament (Act 569). It was to replace Vehicle Examination and Licensing Division (VELD). By the Act, DVLA was to provide the legal and administrative framework for an enhanced and more effective agency to regulate the activities of road users.

It is an agency which falls under the Ministry of Transportation and generally responsible for the Licensing of Drivers and Certification of Vehicles. Its stakeholders include the MTTU of the Police Service, Transport Unions, National Road Safety Commission and Motoring public.DVLA provides a range of licensing, testing services with the aim of improving safety on our roads.  

Job Description

Provide general direction and guidance on security matters to ensure safety and security of DVLA properties located nationwide and protect life of officials within the premises including but not limited to:

Formulate policies, guidelines and rules relating to security of DVLA Regional and District Offices, properties, and personnel
Manage all issues relating to the security of DVLA
Conduct periodic performance review of security officers and provide the necessary guidance for training and development
Write and submit statutory reports on matters relating to security of the Authority
Initiate policies to direct and monitor any security infrastructure or systems installed at the Head Office and any other location
Formulate policies, strategies and framework to ensure safety and security of customers who are on the premises to transact business and their properties

Required Skills or Experience

A recognized university degree in the social sciences or its equivalent
Should be between the age of 50-55 years old
Success in a competitive selection process
Should be a retired Chief Superintendent of the Ghana Police Service or above/equivalent rank in the Ghana Armed Forces
A post qualification relevant experience of not less than 15 years in security administration
Location: DVLA Head Office, Cantonment, Accra
